The Atlanta Percussion Group was founded in the summer of 2011 by Paula Williams and Linda Cornejo in the spirit of the much respected "TAPS" program created by Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, principal timpanist, Mark Yancich.
As a team, Ms Williams and Ms Cornejo each brought unique talents to the program. Paula Williams has taught band and percussion in the Atlanta area and the Southeast for almost twenty years. Her private students consistently rank as principal players in district and all-state bands, and several have gone on to study percussion at major conservatories. Creating The Atlanta Percussion Group was a natural extension of Ms Williams' commitment to finding venues and experiences to inspire and motivate her students and other highly skilled and driven young percussionists. Linda Cornejo brought over twenty years of administrative experience to the Atlanta Percussion Group. For the last six years she worked alongside Ms Williams to create a music program at High Meadows School in Roswell, Georgia. Together they created the umbrella organization of The Atlanta Percussion Group. The "dream" is to slowly grow this organization to encompass venues of development for percussionists of all ages.
